A Perfectly Organized Pantry

If you’re looking for ways to add more storage, and more efficient storage, to your kitchen, then adding a pantry can be a great idea. Or perhaps you already have a pantry and want to optimize the way you store food inside it. Whatever your pantry needs may be, The Kitchen Center can help you design and install a custom storage system that suits your kitchen storage needs. Read on for some tips on how to improve the way you store and organize items in your pantry.

Vary shelf heights

Whether you’re putting away a small salt shaker or a tall box of cereal, there should be an ideal space for storing each item efficiently. Varying the heights of shelves helps you maximize the amount of storage space available while storying food and other items, like cookbooks, of a variety of sizes.

Transparent, labeled containers

Ditch all the half-empty, barely sealed packages of food and empty everything out into separate containers. These could be glass jars or plastic tubs, for example, but it’s better if they’re transparent so you can see the contents of each container at a glance. Even better, stick custom labels to each container to identify the contents.

Organize items by type

If you’re storing a wide range of food and ingredients in your pantry, then you can make it easier to locate things by categorizing them and storing them together in those categories. For example, one shelf or one corner of the pantry could be for baking ingredients, another for canned goods, etc.

Add a spice rack

The back of your pantry door or a cabinet door is the perfect place to hang a spice rack for all your small containers or herbs and spices. Even better, organize all your herbs and spices in alphabetical order so you can easily find what you’re looking for and can clearly see what you need to add to your grocery list when there are gaps.

Utilize drawers

We’ve emphasized the convenience of being able to instantly see what food items are stored and where using transparent storage containers, but this doesn’t mean that traditional drawers can’t be a useful addition to your pantry. Particularly, drawers are a good option for storing kitchen accessories such as dish towels and reusable grocery bags.
